the magic of books

something magic

Last year I had a number of books that shaped my year. Brené Brown’s Rising Strong of course with the bookclub I was part of in October, as well as others I mentioned throughout the year.

On New Year’s Day my 6 year-old daughter bought us all an A3 sheet of paper with the title “what I want to do this year” written along the top. One of my things is ‘read more’.

I have a stack of books next to my bed that threaten to topple over and smother me in my sleep. I have been trying to figure out a way to get through them, as they are all crying out to be read. And I, I desperately want to read them.

So this year, I thought I might try and tackle one fiction and one non-fiction book a month. Here are my choices for this month.

Jan books

I was horrified when going through my old childhood novels and organising them that I did not own a copy of Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. I remember reading the whole series as child and being entranced by Anne’s vivacious personality, her friendships and adventures. So while I do not yet own the whole series I have at least bought a copy of the first book for our shelves. And I am very excited about re-reading it.

For my non-fiction choice, I have absolutely loved Elaine Fraser’s recent posts examining The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. I have a copy here that I have never really looked at, and when another friend mentioned it (thanks C) I knew it is the perfect time to pick it up and see what I can learn.

Things may be a little quiet around here on the blog this month, I am going to spend some time reading and spending time with my girls while they are on holidays. I’ll check in now and again, but mostly I will be soaking in good books and family time before the school year starts.

Summer +holidays + reading, who can think of anything better?

Join me for the journey,

Jodie
